Soundspaces machine. “An extra-galactic sound experience”

Saturday, 5 September 2020, 8.30 p.m.

Auditorium Portovecchio, Trieste

Organized in collaboration with the Società dei Concerti di Trieste on the occasion of the “ESOF 2020” Euro Science Open Forum,

the project offers a sensory “journey” through the most hidden and mysteriously unpredictable places in the Universe. The public will be able to listen to a vast repertoire in an unusual way: from the music of ancient Greece to contemporary music and live-electronics in a combination of a normal concert situation with live musicians, and sounds that will be added to the live music but produced electronically. These “additional sound spaces” will evoke different places in the space that surrounds us, from “nearby” Mars, to Saturn’s satellite, Titan, and on to some exoplanets with unimaginable characteristics.

The protagonists of the musical part of the event are Marja Liisa Marosi (piano), Daniel Mitnisky (cello) and Davide Bandieri (clarinet); for the artistic part there will be Michele Guido with the projection of Pulsar_2017, a video that investigates both the microcosm and the macrocosm of the relationship between the iconography of classical art and the vision of celestial bodies in cosmic space, between macro photos of some dissected plants or flowers and the movement of the planets or the creation of stellar nebulae.

Davide Bandieri, clarinet – Daniel Mitnisky, cello – Marja-Liisa Marosi, piano – FONDAZIONE MERZ, planning and organisation – Gianluca Cangemi e Luca Rinaudo,ALMENDRAMUSIC, sound design – Michele Guido, video installation
