The Education Department of the Merz Foundation participates in Accademia della Luce, the Public Program accompanying the public art exhibition Luci d’Artista, with a series of initiatives inspired by themes proposed by Luigi Ontani’s work Scia’mano. In this piece, the artist presents himself as a shamanic figure who, through the use of lenticular holograms, changes pose depending on the viewer’s point of observation.
To explore the content and investigate the relationship between the artwork and shamanism, the department is offering a series of events in collaboration with experts on the historical and anthropological aspects of the shamanic figure. One of these events was recently dedicated to the drum, a ritual object with a central role in the mediation that shamanic practice performs between the physical and spiritual worlds.
The event will include the sound activation of the drums created during the workshop led by Simone Campa, a multi-instrumentalist musician, together with Mario Petriccione from the Education Department of the Merz Foundation.
