The Education Department of the Fondazione Merz offers a series of initiatives for the Accademia della Luce, inspired by reflections on themes proposed by Luigi Ontani’s work Scia’mano. In this luminous installation, the artist presents himself as a shamanic figure who, through the use of lenticular holography, changes depending on the viewer’s point of observation.
To further explore the relationship between the artwork and shamanism, the Department proposes a series of reflections on the historical and anthropological aspects of the shamanic figure through several sessions with experts. In the mediation that shamanic practice provides between the physical and spiritual worlds, many ritual tools are used to facilitate the “celestial” journey, with the drum playing a primary role.
In this context, a workshop for drum-making will be offered, along with a public percussion performance event scheduled for April. The drum-making activity will involve the use of organic materials of animal origin.
